February 2009

Whatever! Seeing as the coop and run are finished though, we are now
looking to expand our flock. Perhaps some Silky's.

You may also notice in the background of some of the pics, our no-dig
gardens within the old water tank sections that we have been working on for some time now. Nothing growing in them just yet. Still on the
"to-do" list.

The coop itself was a fixer-upper caravan that I came across in Collie.
It sat in our front yard for at least 6 months before it's final use
became apparent. The windows all work, so they are useful to attempt to ventilate the interior. I have also been considering a false roof to
keep the direct sun off the caravan's shell. Within, we have constructed
covered water vessels, a Chook Hotel for our long term patrons, a self
feeder constructed from an old bucket and pot plant reservoir, and other
miscellaneous nesting boxes. The bulk of the chicken's prefer to nest
high in the overhead cupboards for some reason. Probably predator
related anxiety no doubt!
