February 2009

Rachael Xu : My chickens Feathers and Eggie have started to lay eggs. They're twenty weeks old now with big combs.

This one is Feathers with Eggie in the background. They have made their nests in our garden - Feathers has made one behind the chicken house in between two old nest boxes. Eggie's is under a grape vine surrounded by lots of bushes.

I've noticed something funny - Feathers' eggs are large, plain and orange. Eggie's eggs are small, reddish and speckled. I wonder if the appearance of the chicken has anything to do with the eggs.

Feathers has added something to her nest - I went to collect her egg and found a large green leaf in the middle with an egg on it.

Clever Feathers.
