February 2009

Michelle Cortlandt : First, I want to thank you for your great newsletter. This is our first year of raising chickens and we enjoy the tips we receive! We have 8 hens (one is in the house right now). Our neighbors also enjoy our girls. They certainly are entertaining. It is really relaxing and peaceful to see them peck and scratch throughout the day, and now we have wonderful eggs! I have included some photographs of our children and our flock. As we attempted to take our traditional leaf pile pictures this fall, our hens soon got into the act. In one of the pictures I sent, one of our ameraucanas inserts herself into the photo! I think I have just a couple of pictures in the beginning without chickens in them. They certainly are curious and social creatures and they gave us a big laugh as you can see in the pictures.

I also included a photo of our daughter reading a story to two of our barred rock chicks.
